The Waco City Council this week will be asked to approve a deal that would see the location for a former fire station become part of a Catholic Church campus.

Tuesday council will consider an ordinance authorizing a purchase and sale agreement for the property at 2624 Speight, the former location of Fire Station # 5.

The city put the property up for bid, with the only offer coming from the Diocese of Austin for the benefit of Sacred Heart Catholic Church,  which is on the same block, but facing Bagby Avenue.

The sale price would be $65,000.

The proposed used of the property is to accommodate safer dropoff and pickup of students for education and other activities.

The sale has be be authorized by ordinance because it involves the sale of a site owned by a municipality that had been the site of a municipal building.

The fire station building has been demolished and the firefighters and equipment are temporarily located at the Central Fire Station with a new home for them to be built on New Road.
