One killed in crash near Gatesville

The victim in the crash has been identified as 16-year-old Clancy Lawhorn of Gatesville, a sophomore student and member of the band at Gatesville High School.

The Department of Public Safety reports the accident was reported at 7:26 p.m. Wednesday and occurred on FM 107 three miles east of Highway 36.

The DPS report indicates the victim was the driver and sole occupant of a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup that was east bound on FM 107 when it failed to maintain travel in a single lane and left the road.

Investigating troopers said it appeared the driver over corrected with the truck entering a side skid, then rolled over, striking a fence and ejecting the victim who was not wearing a seat belt.

One person has died in a traffic crash just outside Gatesville in Coryell County.

Few details were immediately available, but the Department of Public Safety has confirmed the crash occurred on FM 107 three miles east of Highway 36, just outside the Gatesville city limits.

The accident was reported about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
