One person is dead and four are in the hospital after a rollover accident Saturday around 2 pm.
The single car crash happened on Interstate 35, south of the City of West.
The accident caused traffic congestion for hours.
The investigators say while it’s too early to make any conclusions, it seems that the culprit here is a popped tire.
Sgt. Ryan Howard with the Department of Public Safety says, “When a tire blew out the vehicle left the roadway rolling over, ejecting four people that were inside the vehicle and one stayed inside the vehicle.”
He explains that three people did not wear their seatbelts.
One person was pronounced dead on scene, while the other four were taken to the hospital.
One was airlifted by a helicopter.
The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Anna Wegner of Bullard.
While working this accident the DPS got help from local volunteer firefighters.
Sgt. Howard is once again reminding everyone in the vehicle, not just drivers to always buckle up when hitting the road.
“Seatbelt safety is important, please be reminded to wear your seatbelt. It is proven that seat belts reduce the risk of accident, severe injury or death.”
No charges have been filed in this investigation.
