The driver of a car was pinned in the wreckage and Highway 7 was closed at FM 979 in Robertson County Thursday morning following a crash involving an 18-wheeler.
The male driver and sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the victim was being withheld Thursday afternoon pending notification of next of kin.
The can was pinned under the 18-wheeler.
DPS spokesman Jimmy Morgan says the crash was reported at 9:15 a.m. between Marquez and Kosse.
Morgan says initial reports indicate the passenger car was going west on Highway 7 when the driver attempted a left hand turn onto FM 979, turning into the path of the 18-wheeler that was going east.
The intersection was completely closed for a time, later being opened to one lane of traffic with a flag crew allowing traffic to move in one direction at a time.
The highway was completely reopened about noon.
The driver of the truck was not hurt.
