Stabbing victim dies, suspect arrested


Temple police report a man found stabbed Thursday afternoon has died at the hospital and a 24-year-old Temple man has been arrested and will face murder charges.

The victim,  now identified as 37-year-old Jaco Whiteley, was found in the 700 block of East Downs after officers had gotten a call about a stabbing at 2:53 p.m.

Officers immediately began performing lifesaving measures with the victim being transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at 3:46 p.m. with Justice of the Peace David Barfield ordering an autopsy.

Police investigating the incident identified a possible suspect and at 4:48 p.m. arrested 24-year-old D’vante  Exhalcia Craine-Greene, also known as D’vante Exhalcia Greene-Craine after he was found in the 800 block of North 12th Street.

He was taken to the Bell County Jail.

Bond had not been set as of Friday morning.
