Stop for assistance brings arrest

Local

A Woodway police officer who stopped to help a woman having trouble with her car ended up taking her to jail on multiple drug and weapons charges as events unfolded Tuesday morning.

A Woodway Public Safety spokesman said it occurred about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday as the officer noticed that 28-year-old Breanne Lynn Justice was on the side of the road in the 200 block of Richey Road.

He said it appeared she had a blowout, lost control of the car and went off the road striking a tree.

She and the four-month-old twins in the car with her were not hurt.

The officer said something just did not look right and asked for permission to search the car.

When he was given the go-ahead, he found a quantity of methamphetamine.

After taking the woman into custody, a further inventory of the vehicle turned up a weapon that later was determined to have been stolen in Belton.

Justice was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, unlawfully carrying a weapon and theft of a firearm.
