‘Tip-a-Cop’ benefits Special Olympics of Texas

Members of the Temple Police Department joined forces with Texas Roadhouse to raise money for Special Olympics of Texas.

This comes as part of the statewide “Tip-a-Cop” program.

Officers from Temple PD and other local agencies took the role of guest waiters and waitresses to serve the patrons, collect tips and sale official Torch Run t-shirts for Special Olympics of Texas.

Officer Michael Keating led the event, and says they raised around $3,500 last year. They hope to make more this year. The event also allows officers to talk to community members.

“One thing I would like to stress that every officer that is here is doing this on their own time. There is not over time, there’s no compensation. These officers have given their off-duty time to come out to support The Special Olympics of Texas,” Keating says.

The Tip-a-Cop event runs once a year.
