Train derailment in Riesel

Several cars from a Union Pacific train have derailed in Riesel on both tracks.

The incident happened on Mount Moriah Road, near the Highway 6 and Highway 164 split. The ten cars have been identified as coal cars.

The train is 150 cars long, and was headed for Riesel, having started in Wyoming.

The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office says they do not believe any roads have been blocked due to the derailment.

There were no injuries, according to Union Pacific Railroad. Crews are still assessing the situation, but no time frame for the clean-up has been determined.
