After entering a guilty plea to a murder charge in 54th District Court, Tyrell Dever was sentenced to forty years in prison.
Dever was arrested by Waco police in the afternoon of October 6 after 20-year-old Frederick Lee Clark was shot while he and a group of friends were playing dice in a vacant lot at Garret Avenue and 9th Street near Baylor.
At one point shortly after the shooting, Baylor had issued an alert for its students when it was thought the shooting suspect might have been walking toward the campus.
Waco police spokesman Patrick Swanton said officers were called about 2:15 p.m. that afternoon about the shooting, with first indications that the shooter had walked up to a table where the victim was sitting and started shooting.
The victim was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
A car Dever was thought to have left the scene in was found at a nearby apartment complex a short time later.
