UPDATE: Gatesville appeal upheld by UIL

Gatesville High School successfully appealed the decision to suspend six football players accused of using steroids.

The University Interscholastic League District 13-4a Division 1 Executive committee voted 3-2 Friday morning to suspend the players.

Lampasas, La Vega, and China Spring voted for the suspension, while Gatesville and Liberty Hill voted against.

Gatesville plays China Spring Friday night.

The players are accused of violating Section 50 of the UIL  bylaws, which covers incidents of breaking state law.

Gatesville appealed the decision to the UIL State Executive Committee, and an emergency meeting was called for Friday afternoon.

The committee voted to grant the appeal and let the students play.

FOX44 Sports first reported on the steroid allegations Wednesday.

A Gatesville coach resigned this summer, accused of providing athletes performance enhancing drugs.
