UPDATE: Lake Whitney drowning victim identified

The man who disappeared on March 25 and was later found dead near the south end of Lake Whitney has been identified as 64-year-old Edmundo Calvillo, who most recently had been living in Laguna Park.

The preliminary autopsy report shows the cause of death as drowning with no signs of trauma.

The toxicology report ordered for him is pending.

The Bosque County Sheriff’s office says that Calvillo and another man identified as Barry Collins, also of Laguna Park,  had gone fishing in a canoe in the lake not far from Uncle Gus’ Marina and Resort when their canoe capsized, dumpping the men in the water.

Collins made it to shore safely but Calvillo disappeared.

It was 2:30 p.m. that Monday afternoon that the sheriff’s office got the call about a possible drowning and the search began.

Calvillo was not wearing a life jacket.
