UPDATE: The Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Thursday night to hire Dr. Hazel Rowe as the district’s interim superintendent.
Rowe previously served as the district’s interim superintendent from 2000 – 2001. She has more than five decades of experience in education, including 23 years in Waco ISD. Rowe served as the assistant principal and principal of Crestview Elementary before becoming Waco ISD’s director of elementary operations. This was followed by stints as the district’s assistant superintendent for campus operations and as the associate superintendent for school improvement.
Rowe became an associate executive director at Waco’s Education Service Center Region 12 in 2001. After retiring from this ten years later, she continued to train current and future educators teaching in the doctoral program at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and in the alternative teacher certification program at McLennan Community College. She holds a doctorate in education administration from Texas A&M University.

The Waco Independent School District board will meet on Thursday night to discuss a replacement for Dr. Marcus Nelson.
They are scheduled to discuss hiring an interim superintendent, as well as the search process for a permanent replacement.
Nelson resigned last week after he was arrested for possession of marijuana on March 6.
