Waco police say the woman shot and killed early Sunday morning was 26-year-old Sherrell Carter.
Officers say she died in a home in the 5600 block of Wilshire.
Officers found Carter in the home after getting a call from a witness just after 3:30am. That person told police someone came into the home and shot the woman.
No arrests have been made and police are not releasing any more information at this time.
Alicia York lives only a couple house down from where Carter was killed.
“Our neighborhood has always been real nice and everybody is so lovely and kind to each other. And it’s kind of frightening to hear news like that about that young lady so close to us,” said York.
Detectives think this was a not a random act, so people living nearby should not be worried.
“I’m scared because we’re all just kind of widows around here and it kind of frightens, it just frightens me,” said York.
There was a police K-9 out who was sniffing all around the neighborhood, and the crime scene unit was outside the home Monday.
York says the loss of life is heartbreaking.
“That’s a young life that still had alot of chance to do something in the world and her life’s gone just like that. I’m just sorry for the family and if there’s anything I can do to help them out just tell them to call me,” said York.
