College Station Police report a 23-year-old man was arrested late Monday night after a woman was struck in the head multiple times with a handgun and a man coming to her aid was threatened with the weapon.
Police were called to the Comfort Suites in the 900 block of University Drive at 11:19 p.m. on a report that a woman had been assaulted with a gun.
When officers got there they found that the victim and suspect had made arrangements to meet at that location but after they both got there, things took a violent turn.
The woman was hit in the head at least twice with a handgun and her assailant left the room.
A man in a neighboring room heard the commotion and went to help the woman.
The suspect then return to retrieve something he had left in the room and ran into the man coming to help.
The suspect demanded entry to the room and when he was told “no” he pulled the gun and demanded the keys.
A struggle broke out and the suspect ended upo running down a stairwell.
He was seen running to the Hilton Hotel where a witness saw what vehicle he got into.
The witness flagged down an approaching officer and provided vehicle information.
Officers found the suspect vehicle and made a traffic stop on it, taking the man into custody and recovering a weapon.
The suspect was identified as 23-year-old WIlliam Toups of College Station and was being held on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
