A breakup gets violent in Bellmead.
The Bellmead Police Department dispatched officers to a residence in the 300 block of Penton Lane for a possible assault in progress at 7:17 p.m. Sunday.
One of the subjects had a knife, while another had a gun.
Officers located a woman in the roadway later identified as 38-year-old La Keythia Gates. She was ordered to drop a knife she was holding in her hand and she complied.
They also located a man injured on scene, who was bleeding from his head.
According to the victim, he told Gates he was planning on ending their relationship. This is when the altercation began.
He stated he tried to leave several times, but she would not let him.
Information on the scene from a witness states the two were fighting each other, but that she went into the home and came back out with a knife. He tried to go back into the home, but she was trying to stab him.
He stated he did not realize he had been stabbed until the police arrived on the scene.
Gates was taken into custody for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Family Violence, and transported to the McLennan County Jail.
The victim was provided medical on scene and refused transport to a local medical facility.
