WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — The woman accused of hitting a 50-year-old man in a wheelchair with her vehicle and then driving off faces a new criminal charge.

The Waco Police Department says 23-year-old Tanisha Crawford first turned herself in on November 1st, 2022 after the crash on Halloween evening.

Officers say Crawford hit Alexander Melendez near the intersection of North 18th and Waco Drive around 8:44 p.m. and then drove off.

Crawford faced a charge of causing an accident involving serious bodily injury or death. She posted bond and was released from the McLennan County Jail.

Melendez died from his injuries on November 6th, 2022. Police re-arrested Crawford Tuesday on a charge of Failing to Stop and Render Aid Causing Death and a charge of Motor Vehicle Striking Pedestrian in Crosswalk.
