WACO, Texas (FOX 44) – UPDATE: Waco Fire units responded to a house fire on Monday afternoon.

The department said on Twitter that the fire broke out on the corner of N. 19 Street and Proctor Avenue.

Fire units were sent to 1827 Proctor Avenue about 3:15 p.m. The first units to arrive discovered heavy smoke coming from a duplex.

Witnesses at the scene said one man went into the house to make sure no one was inside, and managed to get a dog out. The man who went in was checked out by medical personnel on the scene.

Firefighters determined that the main body of the fire was in an inside wall, and extended into the attic. The written report indicated that the fire probably started in this wall – which was separating the two sides of the duplex.

The fire was knocked down quickly, and utilities were disconnected. Damage was estimated to be $35,000.
