Milam County, Tx (FOX44) – UPDATE: One person was killed in a Monday evening traffic crash near the Milam-Robertson County Line.

The Milam County Sheriff’s Office reports it happened on FM-485 East, on the Milam County side of the Brazos River bridge, about 8:30 p.m. Firefighters from Gause and Hearne responded to the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says Troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on FM-485. A 2017 Volvo SUV, driven by a 21-year-old woman from Houston, was traveling westbound on FM-485. A 2011 Ford F-350 pickup truck, driven by a 32-year-old man from Cameron, was traveling eastbound on FM-485.

According to the investigating Trooper, the Volvo passed when unsafe and crossed into the eastbound lane into the path of the Ford pickup. The pickup driver took evasive action and drove into the eastbound bar ditch to avoid striking the Volvo.

The Volvo attempted to move back into the westbound lane, but was unable to do so. The Volvo collided with the Ford truck head on, then caught on fire and burned. Reports also indicated a passenger and a dog were trapped in the wreckage.

The confirmed identity of the driver of the Volvo is pending. The driver of the Volvo was pronounced dead on scene by Justice of the Peace Greg Hoelscher.

This crash investigation is still active and open. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Hendricks was investigating.
