The Texas Education Agency has responded to criticism after the organization announced educators pay will be directly affected by an evaluation system.
According to the Associated Press, in a statement Monday night, the TEA said no school district is required to use the new system, T-Tess. According to the Region 10 website, a 2014 copy of the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System shows the plan will replace the state recommended evaluation system and schools can create their own system.
The updated evaluations will take effect on July 1, 2016.
Last week, the Texas State Teachers Association sued the TEA commissioner over the new evaluation system.
