Suspect 21-year-old Dakota Theriot, the man accused of killing five people in two Louisiana parishes Saturday is now in custody.

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, he was caught in Richmond County, Virginia. A spokesperson with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to us that deputies found Theriot at a family member’s home Sunday morning.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said Theriot was known to have family ties in the area. Deputies began checking places Theriot could be and investigated other leads regarding his whereabouts. 

During the search, Richmond County deputies received a request from one of Theriot’s family members to check on their home before they returned. That home is on the 14,000 block of Historyland Highway in Richmond County, Virginia. 

Deputies saw Theriot arrive at that home. Authorities said Theriot was pointing a gun out of the window. The deputies took cover and challenged Theriot, who then dropped the gun. Deputies took him into custody.

He is being held without bond at the Northern Neck Regional Jail. 

Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office thanked all of the other law enforcement agencies who helped make this arrest possible.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre said Theriot will be transported back to Ascension Parish at a later date to face first-dedgree murder charges as well as other charges.

Theriot  is accused of killing his parents, his girlfriend, her dad and her brother.

In a news conference Saturday night, investigators revealed there were ‘no red flags.’ A motive is still unclear.
