BOSQUE, Texas – We recently told you about the abduction of siblings Cody and Jessi Lowery, the suspect Randall Thurman is now dead, and the mother who reported them missing is behind bars.
Details on this case are very limited as police are not releasing much due to children being involved.
The mother Mandi Elizabeth Russell who reported them missing is now behind bars, with two counts of child endangerment.
FOX44 dug a little deeper and went to the Shell gas station off I35 in Itasca where Cody was found by a clerk.
The store manager a man named Junior told FOX44 surveillance video is not being released as this is still under investigation.
He says the footage has been released to the Bosque Sheriff’s Department that is leading the investigation.
However, we do know that Cody was found wrapped in clear packing tape around his arms and throat.
According to the press release he told police Thurman who is a registered sex offender removed him from the car before fleeing with Jessi.
Last Saturday a resident recognized the 2011 Chrysler 200 from the Amber Alert sitting on his property, and notified the Hill County Sheriffs Office.
FOX44 spoke with Hill County Chief Deputy Scott Robinson who said after the call they were immediately able to locate Thurman.
They attempted o conduct a traffic stop before the suspect lead them on a chase through Hill County before crashing into a vehicle in Johnson County, killing himself and the driver.
Today The Department of Public Safety released the name of 85-year-old Maureen Charles Reid who died at the scene.
Jessi was located in the passenger seat.
According to Deputy Robinson both children were transported to Cooks Children Hospital in Fort Worth.
A family friend of the children started a GoFundMe account to help their father who is staying in the hospital while Jessi recovers.
According to the GoFundMe account they are raising money for the children in their new living environment, and financial support as Jessi recovers from a broken jaw, wrist, and leg.
