The current director of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is being moved to a new position.
Director Christopher Sandles will take over as director for the South Texas system based in San Antonio.
“As I begin my final month with the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System and our staff, I am so truly blessed to have had the tremendous opportunity to have served as your Director.,” said Sandles in a message to employees. “I am equally honored to continue serving our nation and our veterans in San Antonio and to remain part of the Veterans Integrated Service Network 17 family.”
Sandles said he was happy with accomplishments over the past two years including the completing of some and starting of other major facility renovations, balancing the budget, filling key clinical and administrative leadership vacancies, working to establish new sites of care and expanding others, creating the first Tele-Primary Care Hub, opening a women’s acute psychiatry unit, building new community partnerships and reinvigorating others.
Sandles began work in Central Texas in February 2017.
A farewell for Mr. Sandles is set for February 11, 2019, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center, 1901 Veterans Memorial Drive, Temple, Texas, Executive Board Room, second floor, Teague Tower, Building 163. Community partners who worked with Mr. Sandles are invited to stop by to say farewell.
Effective March 3, 2019, Andrew Garcia, MHA, will assume the role of Interim Director.
Previously, Mr. Garcia served as the Assistant Director for Operations, where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple
