1 killed, 1 hurt in Milam Co crash

A 76-year-old man has died of injuries sustained in a late Tuesday morning traffic crash in Milam County.

Reynaldo Amaya-Charo of Austin died at CHI St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan where he was take following the crash.

The Department of Public Safety reports Amaya-Charo was the driver of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee that was eastbound on U-S Highway 79 in Milam County near the Robertson County line.

A 2013 Chevrolet Tahone driven by 38-year-old Jody Mack Wood of Leander was westbound.

DPS spokesman Dave Roberts says Wood pulled out and attempted to pass another westbound vehicle and hit the Cherokee head on.

Wood was also taken to CHI St Joseph Hospital in Bryan for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash, which remains under investigation,  occurred about 11:05 a.m. Tuesday.

DPS reminds motorists to always be sure that adequate distance and line-of-sight are available before attempting to pass another vehicle.
