Man sentenced for nude patient photos

Local

A China Spring man who had been accused of taking nude pictures and videos of patients in a local hospital has been sentenced to a total of five years in prison.

Johnny Basye, who had been an employee of Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital at the time, entered pleas to three counts of invasive visual recording.

He was given the maximum allowed by law of two years each on two of the counts and one year on another, with the sentences stacked, or running consecutively,  adding up to a total of five years.

Other counts listed in two indictments were dropped as part of the plea deal.

The investigation began in December 2015 when someone working on Basye’s computer found pictures of his estranged wife and sister-in-law on the hard drive.

Other pictures found were determined to be of at least two hospital patients because of hospital gowns and tubing.

Videos were found as well.

At the time of Basye’s arrest, Waco police spokesman Patrick Swanton said that the hospital was instrumental in them completing their investigation.

A statement issued by Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest at the time indicated that Basye was immediately suspended without pay and then fired.

Basye was arrested at his home in China Spring, booked into the McLennan County Jail and later released after posting $30,000 bond.
