A man accused of attacking a man with a hammer resulting in critical injuries has now been arrested and booked into the McLennan County Jail.
Paul Anthony Melendez, Jr. was booked into the jail late Thursday night and posted bond at 1:49 p.m. Friday and was released.
An affidavit filed in support of his arrest warrant stated that Melendez was a suspect in the attack that took place early on the morning of January 24th at a home in the 1900 block of Jeran Avenue.
In the affidavit the detective in the case said that Melendez was upset about the victim talking with a woman at his own residence at that location.
Melendez is accused of holding a hammer and making threatening remakrs to the victim.
The affidavit said he approached the victim and struck him with full force of the manner to his upper left side.
The court papers said the attack broke four ribs as well as resulting in truama to the chest wall and pooling of blood between the chest wall and his lungs..
The victim was taken to the emergency room, was treated in Intensive Care for two days and remained in a regular room at the hospital for several more days.
The affidavit said that a week after the incident the victim was still not able to breathe normally.
