A Friday morning fire forces a Valley Mills couple and their dogs out into the early morning cold.
Now, they need a new home.
“They literally lost everything. They were both outside barefooted. That’s all they were able to do was get the clothes that were on them and their two dogs and just get out,” says neighbor Stephanie Valdez.
Fire and smoke could be seen for miles as flames devoured the house on the corner of S 8th Street and Avenue D in Valley Mills.
Valdez lives a couple houses down from the house.
“They are the sweetest people ever, for as far as I know them,” Valdez explains.
She saw Meshella and Clynte Vipperman outside with their dogs and went to help them. The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m.
Valley Mills, China Spring and Clifton Volunteer Fire Departments all responded with a total of ten firetrucks.
Valley Mills had 12 firefighters there and didn’t leave the scene until five hours later. Neighbors say they are new to the neighboorhood.
“They just moved in. I think they just finished moving in probably yesterday or Monday. Probably haven’t been there. Maybe three days at the most,” Valdez says.
The house is a total loss, and now the community is coming together to help.
Valdez says Meshella works at Valley Mills Elementary School, and they have already set something up.
“School has their drop off probably at the school, most likely. I was told that the bank was going to be setting up something here for them as well,” Valdez explains.
Aside from the school donations, Valdez is collecting donations at her house, located at 409 S 8th Street, Valley Mills, Texas 76689, and is asking the community to donate clothes since they lost everything in the fire.
If you wish to donate clothes, here are their sizes: Her shirts- 2x. Pants-18, Shoes-10.5/11 ; His shirts 3-4x, Pants- 44×32, Shoes – 14/15. They also have 2 dogs.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but firefighters and neighbors are guessing it might be electrical.
