A Copperas Cove police officer found a six year old child running in a street at 1:30 in the morning back on April 16, waving the officer down and asking for help,  saying he could not find his mother.

That woman, later identfied as Scarlette Marie McCall, ended up being arrested when the investigation was complete.

The officer spotted the child in the 600 block of Casa Drive and said the child was upset and crying and was in his pajamas with no shoes on.

He said he woke up to find he was alone, got scared and started looking for his mother and could not find her.

The officer went with the child back to his apartment and attempted to call the mother’s phone number, only to find the phone in the apartment.

The complaint filed by the officer in the case said the woman arrived back at the residence at 2:10 a.m. with a man and told the officer she and her friend had gone to a bar on West Business Highway 190 for drinks after having visited at the apartment earlier.

She said the child was OK and sleeping when they left and that she thought he would be OK since they were relatively close by.

A warrant for McCall was obtained April 21

McCall was arrested on charges of abandoning or endangering a child with intent to return.
