Opioid use expected to rise

Pain Stops Here

New research is predicting deaths from illicit opioid abuse are expected to skyrocket by 147 percent by the year 2025.

More than 49,000 people died from opioid overdoses in 2017. Without any public policy intervention, the researchers predict this number will hit 81,700 by 2025.

The researchers say they need more resources to treat people who are addicted in order to curb the epidemic. Adding criminalizing those who misuse opioids is not a solution.
