College Station police say that two would-be burglars who were surprised to find their intended victim was home managed to elude officers responding to the call Thursday night.

Officers were called to the Campus Crossing Apartments at 800 Marion Pugh Drive at 9:14 p.m. Thursday on a report of a burglary in progress.

The resident calling had been home at the time but had left the front door unlocked.

The two burglars entered to the unlocked door but discovered the resident there and fled.

The first officers on the scene actually spotted the suspects running from the apartment bilding and gave chase but they got away.

Texas A&M University Police assisted in setting up a perimeter around the complex but the suspects were not found.

During the search, however, several items of stolen electronics were found and returned to their owners.

While the investigation was going on, another resident returned home and discovered their apartment had also been burglarized.

Police determined that the burglars had once again entered through an unlocked door.

Several items taken from that apartment are still missing.

Anyone with information on these incidents are asked to contact the College Station Police Department at 979-764-3600
