Over a thousand Mexia residents lost power and internet service early Friday morning when a semi clipped overhead wires attached to a utility pole at the intersection of Ross and Tyler in Mexia.

Mexia police issued a statement saying that a significant portion of Mexia was without service for a time, though by mid morning some customers once again had lights and internet.

Representatives of both ONCOR and Northland Cable have been working since about 4:00 a.m. to restore service, but all service was not expected to be restored until mid afternoon Friday.

Residents in the affected areas were being advised to make plans to deal with the heat and lack of power as an extreme heat advisory was in place.
