Scott & White Emergency Medical Services (EMS) introduced 1 of 3 new ambulances into service for the Central Texas area Wednesday.
The new 2016 Dodge Ram 3500 on a Frazer 12-foot box is the first vehicle to display a new design that was modeled after the Baylor Scott & White Health scheme.
Scott & White Emergency Services say they will have the other two new ambulances by June.
“We also purchased power stretchers, and so the stretchers that are in the back are actually, they have an automatic part to it, mechanics to it. So, it helps with the lifting of the stretcher so it’ll save on the paramedics and the EMT’s who have to lift the patient, as far as their shoulders and back injuries and things like that,” said Operations Manager, Chuck Pearson.
The older ambulances will eventually phase out, but in the meantime they will be used as a back-up.
The new ambulances cost $130,000 each.
