A 14-year old girl faces an assault charge due to a fight at a Killeen middle school.
The school district says the incident happened during a history class at Manor Middle School last Friday.
“First hit her in the back of the head with a textbook and dragged her on the ground and started beating on her. Well we call that assault,” Terry Abbott, KISD spokesman, said.
After the attack ended, the school principal spoke with the victim and her parents – saying charges could be filed.
“The principal moved very quickly to get that child out of the school and into the criminal justice system and that’s what we’re going to do. A 14-year-old is old enough to know better. You can’t beat on a student in school, that’s a crime,” Abbott said.
Manor Middle School parent Zena Rodriguez agreed.
“They know what they’re doing. They know the consequences of what they’re doing. They know what’s right and wrong,” Rodriguez said.
While she doesn’t want to imagine if her child were attacked, she’d want something seriously done about it.
“They have to pay for their actions, no matter what. That’s the only way the youth is going to learn,” Rodriguez said.
The principal suspended the suspected attacker, who may be sent to an alternative school, while the investigation continues.
