A group of Temple juveniles made an unusual choice of vehicles to go joy riding in Sunday.
Police began getting calls about kids driving a dump truck around on the city’s east side, with an officer spotting it about 1:05 a.m.
The truck was going west on East Avenue E between South 18th and South 20th streets.
The officer was going east at the time and the truck and the officer passed each other.
As the officer was turning around, the driver of the truck turned north onto 18th street with the occupants bailing out of the truck, running away on foot.
The officer spotted three suspects, but soon had another problem.
The truck had been left in neutral and rolled back, striking the officer’s patrol vehicle.
The collision resulted in only minor damage
A perimeter was set up in the neighborhood, but the joyriders got away.
