After it was determined that one of the parties believed to have been involved in a dispute leading to a homicide is related to a Killeen Police Department employee, the Texas Rangers have been invited to review and assist in the investigation in the interests of transparency.
That statement was released by KPD Friday afternoon regarding the investigation into the shooting death of 27-year-old Curtis E Shelley.
Shelley was found lying in the roadway in the 1000 block of Cedar Drive Sunday afternoon when police were called about a shooting.
Police say the preliminary investigation indicated the victim and suspect had been involved in an ongoing dispute.
Police say at the time of the incident, the two had been arguing and at some point a firearm was discharged toward the victim.
Detectives said they were able to identify the parties involved and that the investigation was ongoing, with the case to be sent to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Detectives are still asking that anyone with additional information about the shooting contact Crime Stoppers at 254-526-TIPS (8477) or go on line here
