Theft of burrito turns violent with victim sent to the hospital

News

The theft of a burrito became something more serous when it turned violent and sent a man to the hospital.

Police say it happened about 11:00 p.m. Sunday when the manager of Mungi’s  at 701 South MLK Jr Drive in Temple confronted a man he saw stuffing a burrito down his pants.

The man responded by violently punching the manager in the face and running from the store.

The store manager was taken to the hospital with facial injuries.

Police note that once a theft involves the use of force,  the offense then becomes robbery, which is a much more serious offense.
