The Groesbeck Police Department received information through tip411 on Tuesday regarding a threat made by a former student at Groesbeck High School.
The threat was reported to involve the use of a firearm and was made through SnapChat. The police department responded to the school and relayed the information received.
School administration initiated a “soft lockdown” on the campus while the police department conducted an investigation into the threat. The suspect was not believed to be on school property, but officers were placed around the campus as a precautionary measure.
The police department was able to contact the suspect by phone and determine his location. The local police department was contacted and his presence in that city was confirmed.
The lockdown was then lifted by school administration.
The soft lockdown was initiated in accordance with school procedure and worked as designed while the police department assessed the situation and conducted its investigation. The department says school staff, administration and students reacted as trained and are to be commended for their actions during this time.
The Groesbeck Police Department was assisted by the Mexia Police Department during this incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
