Lampasas firefighters say witnesses provided information that a hot burning midday brush fire just outside their city was triggered by someone throwing a cigarette out of a car window.
However, even though there was a description of the vehicle, it could not immediately be traced.
The area where the fire started just outside Lampasas on Highway 190 East was dense with cedar and mosquite trees resulting in a very fast growing, hot fire.
Because of the nature of the fire, bulldozers from the Texas Forest Service were called in to cut a firebreak.
Firefighters from Lampasas and Kempner worked the fire through the afternoon.
Lampasas firefighters remind motorists not only is it illegal to throw cigarettes out of a car, it also puts lives in danger.
