The Department of Public Safety recovered what was believed to be stolen welding and cutting equipment Wednesday morning after three men fled a truck pulled over for a traffic stop near Navasota.
DPS spokesman Jimmy Morgan says a trooper pulled over a blue 1996 Chevy pickup pulling a small flatbed trailer about 8:00 a.m.on Highway 6 near FM 2154.
As soon as the truck came to a stop, while the trooper was talking to the driver, the two passengers bailed out and headed for a wooded area off the southbound side of Highway 6.
The driver was taken into custody without much trouble, but the search went through the day for the other two.
Morgan says it appears the welder and some of the other equipment on the trailer and in the pickup was stolen, but by afternoon they were still trying to determine what was and wasn’t.
The men were described as black males possibly in their twenties.
A helicopter and K-9 units assisted in the search.
