The trial of a woman accused in the death of a child at  her unlicensed day care center began Wednesday in Bell County’s 264th District Court.

A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office confirmed that jury selection had begun in the trial of Courtney Seleste Casanas on a charge of criminally negligent homicide.

The child, Jaxson Reed, was found unresponsive in a car seat at the home that was being operated as a care center in the 5300 block of Sydney Harbour Court in Killeen May 12, 2017.

A safety strap on the seat was found around the child’s neck.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment but died July 8, 2017.

Casanas was indicted by a Bell County Grand Jury in November 2017.

She was then arrested by police in Austin, and brought back to Bell County to face the charges.
