UPDATE: White House lockdown lifted

The White House was locked down for about an hour on Friday afternoon following a reported shooting in the area.

According to NBC, Park Police report a shooting occurred on Executive Drive at 17th near the White House, west of the main entrance. The man shot allegedly approached a checkpoint with a gun and refused to drop it. He has only been identified as a white male.

President Obama was not at the White House.

CNN reports the Secret Service cleared the North Lawn, Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park while on lockdown.

One man was taken from the scene with critical injuries, NBC reports. A Secret Service agent reportedly shot the man in his chest.

The lockdown was lifted around 3:00 p.m.
