Matt Rhule has a track record of turning programs around, as he looks to do that in year two at Baylor coming of a 1-11 season.

Rhule went 2-10 in his first season at Temple, and saw a four-win improvement in year two getting the Owls to 6-6, a four win improvement. Rhule has said multiple times that he plans to have Baylor back in a bowl game this year.

“Until I’m dead coaching I’ll always say at any college football program, I’ll say, my goal is to go to a bowl game every year and be relevant every year and be in the conference championship race every year,” he said at Big 12 Media days. “That’s when you have your program up and running. Are we there yet. I’m not saying that we are. I don’t know where we are, but if we’re not talking about Bowl games what are we talking about? SO I expect us to fight and go to a bowl game. I expect us to go to a bowl game, our players expect to go to a bowl game.”

One key to turning things around for Baylor will be their depth, an area Rhule feels much better about in year two, than he did in year one.

“I think we are significantly deeper than we were, there’s some areas that I’m still maybe a little concerned about, but we have enough people at pretty much every position,” he said. “You know, we might have to play some younger kids, I’d love to be able to red shirt some guys, sometimes but I feel like we’re a much more complete team, and a much deeper team. I’ve been really pleased with our non scholarship players, walk on players, they’ve given us tremendous depth as well so there’s not an area that I’m overly concerned about, except maybe quarterback, we’d love to have another guy or two.”

Rhule and The Bears open Fall camp on Friday, August 3rd.
