Baylor and UConn will meet for the 7th time, on Thursday night as Baylor looks for their first-ever win over a number-one team.
The Lady Bears are 2-4 all-time against UConn with their last game being a 72-61 loss in Storrs in 2016.
The Huskies come in with loads of talent and a regular-season winning streak of 126 games, but the Lady Bears want to stay in their own lane and not try to play differently because it’s UConn.
“We just have to stay focused on our game, we can’t try to match their game,” Junior Lauren Cox said. “We just have to play our game we have to get out in transition, play inside out and knock down some shots.”
Senior Chloe Jackson played against five top-5 teams during her time at LSU, including a game against UConn, and she is looking forward to the experience of playing on a big stage tomorrow night.
“It’s going to be a good game,” she said. “We’re going to bring a lot of energy. We’re going to feed off the crowd, but it’s exciting, we’re ready to play.”
A win would be a massive feather in the cap of the Lady bears moving forward, but Head Coach Kim Mulkey wants her team to be ready for a quick turnaround as they will open conference play in Lubbock on Sunday.
“When that game is over, we cannot and will not let it affect, our first conference game in Lubbock,” She said. “Because what happens is you spend so much energy and time preparing to play the number one team, when the most important game, really, really is winning that conference championship, so we’ve got to be careful that doesn’t happen.”
Baylor will try to hand UConn it’s first regular-season loss since an overtime loss to Stanford back in November of 2014.
