Baylor Soccer Earns Hosting Bid as No. 2 Seed in NCAA Tournament

Baylor Press Release:

WACO, Texas – No. 9 Baylor soccer (17-5-0, 8-1-0 Big 12) will have the potential to host at least its first three matches of the NCAA Soccer Championship, earning a No. 2 national seed, the highest in program history.

The opening round is set for a 7:30 p.m. kick at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field on Saturday, Nov. 10. The Bears will welcome in a familiar foe, facing ACU (15-5-1) for the second time in 2018 after opening the regular season at home with a 2-0 win over the Wildcats on Aug. 16.

ACU won the Southland Conference tournament title as the five seed, becoming the first ACU Athletics’ program to earn a spot in an NCAA Tournament at the Division I level.

BU earns the program’s sixth NCAA bid, getting the right to host the opening round in Waco for the fifth time. The Bears have clinched back-to-back postseason bids for the third time. Baylor has earned a national seed just one other time, named a No. 3 seed in 2012.

Baylor is 5-4-2 all-time in the NCAA tournament and will look to repeat its historic run in 2017, with the Bears advancing to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history.

BU could stay home for the first three matches of postseason, with a win over ACU moving the Bears on to face the winner of Vanderbilt (15-3-1) and Murray State (13-4-1) the following weekend. Baylor would also be hosting the winners of Virginia (15-4) vs. Monmouth (16-3-1) and Texas Tech (13-5-2) vs. Princeton (11-3-2), potentially playing the advancing team for a repeat trip into the Elite 8, paired with the No. 1 seeded Georgetown (17-0-3).
