Baylor Softball Drops Game Two Against Iowa State

Baylor Press Release:

WACO, Texas – Baylor (17-26, 2-13) fell 4-0 to Iowa State (26-18, 3-8) Friday night at Getterman Stadium.

The Lady Bears got off to a strong start as Sidney Holman struck out a pair of batters in the first inning. An inning later, Iowa State loaded the bases with two outs, but Goose McGlaun caught a pop fly at first base to end the inning.

Defensively, Nicky Dawson tied her career high with six putouts on the night. She leapt in the air to snag a line drive twice – once in the fourth inning and again in the sixth.

Holman finished with four strikeouts as she gave up three runs off five hits in 5.1 innings of work. Kassidy Krupit came on in relief and gave up one run off two hits with one strikeout.

  • Hannah Thompson made her first start since missing out on the last five weeks due to injury. In her first at-bat, Thompson singled to left field.
  • Ana Watson made her second diving catch in as many days in right field.
  • For the second time this season, zero Lady Bears struck out.

6 – Number of putouts Nicky Dawson recorded to tie her career best.

Glenn Moore on the game…
“They hit some balls hard right at us. Nicky made a couple of line drive catches that were impressive and kept probably more runs off the board. We made some plays defensively. But I haven’t won a game yet where we haven’t scored a run in. It would be nice for Sidney (Holman) to go out and pitch with a cushion now and then, but she hasn’t had that luxury this year. Unfortunately, we lost a series now on a weekend that we needed to win the series. Now we’ve got a character test to see if we can fight to the end. I’m going to vote that we’ll show great character and keep fighting.”

Baylor and Iowa State face off in the series finale at noon Saturday.
