The Baylor softball team will head to Stillwater without Senior Caitlin Charlton who is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
She suffered the injury in Tuesdays win against McNeese. Speaking with the media Thursday Coach Glenn Moore and Charlton’s teammates were upset by the news, but know they have to find a way to replace her production on the field.
“We kind of had a tryout for it,” Head Coach Glenn Moore said when asked about the plans for 3rd base. “We’ve got a couple of options. We put smith in the mix, of course she hasn’t played there, so a lot of work for her. I think it will probably be Maddison Kettler, She’s very quick over there.”
Tuesday was a rough day off the field for the Lady Bears, while Wednesday was a rough day on the field. Baylor dropped a 7-3 decision to McNeese committing three errors prompting some soul searching in the aftermath.
“We called a team meeting and kind of had to face the music and face the facts and just deal with what was in front of us,” Senior Carlee Wallace said. “I think we’re headed in the right direction.”
The Ladies were scheduled to leave for Stillwater earlier in the afternoon on Thursday but after a lackluster performance Coach Moore decided to have a practice before getting on the Bus.
“We needed more energy,” he said. “That’s one thing we talked about is having more energy. They looked like zombies out there yesterday and I told them that. You should never show up and play that way. I’d rather it happen last night than this weekend so hopefully we’ve got some things straightened out.”
Baylor and Oklahoma State will play game one at 5:00pm on Friday, but with bad weather forecasted for Stillwater this weekend, the Lady Bears could tweak their weekend schedule.
