Baylor softball will leave the country for the first time in program history on Wednesday as they travel to the 2019 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
The Bears will see top-10 opponents in Washington and South Carolina, and if they can notch big wins on the first weekend of the season, junior Taylor Ellis knows first-hand, how big those wins can be when the committee is making their selections, in May.
“I think my freshman year our opening tournament really helped us secure that hosting spot,” she said. “This is a huge tournament for us, we’ve got two top-10 teams, and some other top teams so this will be huge for us.”
Coach Glenn Moore has scheduled tough over the last few years and he knows that big-time opponents help the team play their best early in the season.
“I think the value in playing two top-10 teams in your opening weekend is that you don’t overlook the opponent,” he said. “You come ready to play them.”
The Bears open the season on Thursday at 12:30pm against South Carolina.
