LAWRENCE, Kan. – Baylor (15-17, 2-5) split its doubleheader at Kansas (13-21, 2-1) on Sunday.

GAME 1: BAYLOR 3, KANSAS 2

In the bottom of the seventh down by only a run, Kansas tried to rally once again, but the Baylor defense stepped up behind pitcher Sidney Holman to retire the Jayhawks in order to secure the victory.

The Lady Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Taylor Ellis led things off with a single to left field. With two outs and runners on the corners, Madi O’Neal hit a grounder up the middle. The Kansas shortstop mishandled it which allowed Ellis to score from third. A batter later, Nicky Dawson dropped a single into shallow center field to bring home Tyler Trott and O’Neal.

Kansas threatened to get on the board an inning later when the Jayhawks loaded the bases with one out. Baylor was able to get out of the inning unscathed as Ellis fielded a grounder and got the force out at home before Dawson scooped up a grounder and stepped on second for the final out of the frame.

GAME 2: KANSAS 7, BAYLOR 1

Baylor took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The bases were loaded for the Lady Bears with two outs when Kassidy Krupit scored from third off a wild pitch by the Kansas pitcher.

The Jayhawks evened the score in the bottom of the inning before they took the lead for good two innings later.

Nicky Dawson, Lou Gilbert, Goose McGlaun and Kendall Cross each recorded a hit in the contest.

TOP QUOTES
Glenn Moore on the day…

“I’m disappointed we didn’t play better. We let yesterday’s game get away and gave Kansas the confidence they needed to split with us today and take the series.  We are playing to keep from getting beat, and that tentativeness is hurting us.”
