Oklahoma State was picked to finish 4th in the Big 12 preseason poll, after posting a 10-3 record in 2017. If the Cowboys have another 10 win season in 2018, they’ll become the first group in school history to reach 10 wins, four consecutive years.
The Cowboys have big shoes to fill, as they’ll be without quarterback Mason Rudolph, and wide receiver James Washington. Jalen McCleskey is expected to pick up some of the slack at wide receiver, and Mike Gundy sees Taylor Cornelius as the heir to Rudolph.
“When we came out of spring, we felt very comfortable with Taylor,” Mike Gundy said. “Certainly going into August he’s our guy. He’s been with us a number of years. He understands our offense.”
On defense, Jim Knowles is entering his first season in Stillwater, as the defensive coordinator. Knowles is implementing a new 4-2-5 scheme, playing four lineman, two linebackers and five defensive backs.
“I like watching him coach. Very intriguing person. I think he’s a great teacher…” Gundy said.
