In high school softball, Belton advanced to the third round of the playoffs, after beating Prosper in game three on Saturday. The Lady Tigers are led by eight seniors, who have all bought into head coach Matt Blackburn’s team motto this year, “flush it.”
“Whenever coach Blackburn came up with flush it, we all just sort of like yeah whatever,” Madison Ward said. “But as soon as we started to realize, like this is it, this is all we have is this year together, then we were able to just put the past behind us and work together as a team.”
“It’s really pushed us, as far as we are right now,” Avery Drake said. “And that’s what we’re gonna keep thinking about, whenever we have an error, or make a mistake, or something doesn’t go our way.”
Belton’s team motto helped the Lady Tigers this past weekend, after they lost game two, for Prosper to even the series, they had 30 minutes before the elimination game.
“Just told them in between games, you’ve got 30 minutes to flush it,” Matt Blackburn said. “And get ready to play another one, and I was really impressed, with them having their backs against the wall, and coming out, and competing and doing what we had to do to get a W.”
Belton’s softball team advanced to the third round in the playoffs on Saturday, after defeating Prosper 4-0 in game three. The last two years, the Lady Tigers were eliminated in the second round, and now that they’ve made it past that point, they’ve recognized their potential this season.
“Ending in the second round, it’s heartbreaking,” Madison Ward said. “We hate losing in the second round, because we know that we’re capable of way more than that.”
“We’re not done,” Matt Blackburn said. “We’re not satisfied with that, that was the expectation, not the goal.”
