UMHB Press Release:
Former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football standout Bryce Wilkerson has signed with the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League. Wilkerson becomes the fourth Cru alum to get a minicamp invite from a CFL or NFL club this spring.
The Tiger Cats reached out to Wilkerson shortly after the NFL draft and the team is looking at the speedster as a wide receiver and kick returner. Wilkerson was at home in Tyler when he got the call and will report to camp in Hamilton on May 17th.
“This has been a dream of mine for a long time and I was just praying for someone to give me a chance professionally just like UMHB did,” Wilkerson said. “My family is very happy that someone was willing to give me an opportunity. Now I am excited to get the chance to get up there and show them what I can do.”
Wilkerson was a four-year letterman for the Cru as a wide receiver and kick returner. He also played cornerback during his UMHB career. Wilkerson capped his career by earning All-America honors from the Associated Press. The American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com as a senior. He was also an All-Region selection and earned American Southwest Conference All-Conference honors as both a kick returner and wide receiver. Wilkerson returned three punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns in 2017 and was also UMHB’s leading receiver with 66 catches for 709 yards and five more touchdowns. He set a new school record with the 66 receptions and broke the ASC career record with 11 combined kick returns for touchdowns in his career. Wilkerson finished with 118 career pass receptions for 1,395 yards and 14 touchdowns to rank in UMHB’s top ten all-time in each of those categories.
Wilkerson joins former Cru teammates Blake Jackson and Keith Reineke (Calgary Stampeders) and Haston Adams (Arizona Cardinals) in receiving minicamp invites from professional teams this spring.
